All that glitters is Mercury?!?

Us Irish are more accustomed to pots of gold but I’m sure Conor J O’Brien (aka Villagers) won’t mind a bit of mercury, in the shape of The Mercury Prize.
Villagers’, fronted by Conor J O’Brien, nominated album ‘Becoming a Jackal’ has wowed critics and music lovers for it’s incredibly personal lyrics and it’s dark and intense mood. And yes I love it. It’s these qualities that keep me listening alongside the folksy simplicity of the album, that strikes a chord with me.
‘Becoming a Jackal’, the first single from the album, is a dreamy, wonderful and amazing track that comes with a slightly disturbing yet hauntingly beautiful video (watch out for the dancing pigs). It’s not the most recent track from them but for me, it’s always been one of my favourites.
I’m delighted that Villagers has attracted the attention of the Mercury Prize panel and I wish them the best of luck. And with their odds at the bookies jumping from 25/1 to 10/1, we might have an Irish winner on our hands. Place your bets. . . NOW!

Three things I love

If I had to write a list full of things I love or am in love with, it would definitely be a very long list. Now I don’t always remember all the things I love but today has reminded me of a few.
After an extremely hot weekend, with basically no clouds. Today has taken a turn and there are large angry clouds casting a grey shadow everywhere. They’re ready to explode, hopefully with a bit of thunder.
Oddly all of this has left me calm and happy, the fresh smell of rain is lovely.
So here are 3 loves:
1) I love the sound of heavy rain and thunder (and the smell of rain), it calms me down. (Today reminds me of singing in the rain, even though it isn’t even heavy yet).
2) I love books so much, I try to read loads. Already I own a lot of books, but I’ve always wanted to fill a room full of my books and have a really comfy chair that I can slide into then read as much as I want.
3) A few years ago I bought a Canon AE1 SLR, and oh do I adore it. It takes gorgeous photos and makes the most amazingly strange shutter sound, which makes it even more loveable.

Cute little laddy

This little, 11 week old, puppy called Laddy came to visit on Sunday. He would have little hyper outbursts, then have a sleep before wanting to play again. So cute! He makes me want a little dog like him.
He’s almost teddy bear sized.

Excited about SeeSaw

This would be SeeSaw the site not playground thing, but playground see saws are really fun.
I’m so excited that this site is now up and running. Two years ago I wrote about Video on demand for my dissertation, and found out about plans for an On demand site called SeeSaw for the UK. In a way it’s similar to Hulu, you can go to this site and watch programmes from TV channels like BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five. If I remember it’s a collaboration between the main TV channels last listed, you can also rent programmes cheaply too.
I was so excited about this when I first found out about it, now it’s here. I haven’t tried it out yet. Maybe I’ll do that next. I can’t wait to find out where interactive media is heading next, it is so fascinating and exciting.

To do lists

I love to make ‘To do’ lists, even more when you get to cross something off. It makes me happy. Normally I have to write lists to finish my other lists, but I like that really.
The one time I don’t like writing lists is when I’m going away and packing my bags. It’s a bit weird but I just don’t like writing what I have to pack.
So next week I’m going to Glastonbury festival and need to get my stuff together. I have no trouble with that, I’ll work on that tomorrow.
My sister is going too. She loves writing travel lists, but she keeps texting me on what I need to pack and if I’ve written a list. Arrrrr. More obsessed than me! Didn’t know that was possible.

Oh dear, I’m really not good at blogging often even though I love it. I’ll work on that. Just have to say quickly though that I love www.weheartit.com so much, lots of gorgeous images that you can ‘heart’. Well quite a bit has happened since last I spoke…
On saturday I took a trip to brighton with some friends, and I got my first ever tattoo. A little heart on the inside of my left wrist. It’s obviously still healing, and I’m actually getting a bit impatient and annoyed with it. I can’t wait for it to be fully healed and not look so disgusting, hopefully.
Also today I bought a large journal, as I want to make a note of all my happy memories. So that when I’m old I can read through it, if I’ve forgotten any or all by then. I started it already and will fill it up slowly, so excited.
